Himalayan Bouquet, Autumn 2017
Picked on Jun Chiyabari garden in Nepal. This organic garden is family run, sitting at 6,000ft in the Himalayas. The garden was founded in 2000, so it’s young and innovative.
The Bouquet is a medium oxidised oolong, which will appeal to both new and seasoned tea drinkers, particularly Darjeeling drinkers who want to try a more unusual tea.
This batch is full of well-made leaves and plenty of silvery tips, which provide complexity and texture.
Infusing the tea reveals its beautiful leaves. Whole leaves prevent too many tannins from escaping, making this tea complex, expressive, and smooth.
There are distinctive stone fruit notes in the opening, like apricot and peach. The finish is a touch dry and nutty, with hints of almond. If you let it cool more, glimmers of milk chocolate emerge, making this tea reminiscent of a fruit and nut bar.
